Several years ago while looking for military writing and veteran writing resources, I found a website called the Veterans Writing Project. Through that, Ron Capps wrote a book called Writing War. A Guide To Telling Your Own Story.
This is a short read with a lot of guidance and examples to help veterans tell their stories. But, this book is not just for veterans writing, but is very helpful if YOU are assisting a veteran with writing their story or are doing oral histories or you are writing a military story about your family member. I feel this is a book for everyone.
The book is also filled with quotes from other veterans’ writing projects or books. The appendix has a great list of all authors quoted in the book so you can read their works and an extensive reading list if you want more.
I would invite you to take a look around the Veterans Writing Project website to see what resources are available if you are ready to start writing your story.
