Are you looking for a warm, inviting, cozy, friendly place to stay near the Meuse-Argonne ABMC cemetery in France? Then check out Moulin Le Cygne apartments.
We spent a few days in France last week to tour the Meuse-Argonne and Verdun WWI areas and visit Reims. I was looking for something with character and charm in the Meuse-Argonne area and found Le Moulin Cygne. I immediately fell in love with the place so booked it.
We stayed in one of four apartments in an old mill run by Claes and his wife. The front of the building as pictured above is a tavern which is owned separately. The doorway to the right of the tavern opens into the Reception area of the apartments. Our apartment was to the right of that off the main courtyard and had a bedroom facing the garden view. Absolutely gorgeous in September and I can only imagine how beautiful it is during the summer!
We had a full apartment with a small kitchen but Claes offers breakfast for an additional fee. Since Johan has been ill the last two years, traveling has been more difficult so I chose to have Claes provide breakfast for me so I didn’t have to deal with that. Though we did pick up a few groceries so I had a couple snacks. I ate at the tavern a couple of nights. Good to remember the French don’t start serving dinner until 7:00 p.m. and most places stay closed, especially in tiny villages like this one, until then. I could have eaten in the Reception/breakfast area but Claes made me a basket each morning of juice, croissant, meat, cheese, veggies, fruit, and condiments, so I could take them to my apartment.
The old mill is about a 10 minute walk into the centre of Stenay. We drove through there a little while we were going to or from somewhere else. It is a quaint village that has a Saturday morning market.
This is definitely a place we will stay again when in that part of France. Claes and his wife are very kind people and the place was immaculate. You can look through some of my photos of our apartment below.
